I loved Brennan's point about how storytelling, for him, isn't some effect but is instead foundational. I feel that deeply myself.

Since 2012, Crash Course has produced more than 50 series made up of over 1500 videos, covering not only the foundational courses of high school and early college but also filling gaps in our education systems around topics like Black American history, climate change, and artificial intelligence. We’ve done all of that — educating hundreds of millions of viewers around the world — without charging a single penny. That doesn’t seem possible, and it didn’t have to be. But something happened that made Crash Course possible: the generous support of our audience. It’s become a tradition that each year, we produce a new Crash Course Coin. This beautiful object is minted in Arkansas from hand-engraved dies, and each one represents your ability to help us reach thousands of learners. They quite literally make Crash Course free for everyone forever. This year’s gorgeous design showcases figs, which, for us, represent growth and knowledge. Archaeological evidence suggests that figs are one of the earliest cultivated crops, dating back more than 11 thousand years and actually pushing back previous understandings of when human agriculture began. The design reminds us that when we get curious about the world around us, we discover and create new knowledge. We grow. And that project of meaning-making connects us to the earliest humans, and all the generations yet to come, all around the world. The 2024 Crash Course Coins are only available until June 7, and then never again!
