Is Ocean Isle Beach a good place to retire? ›

Great Town and Place to live, Highly Recommend. I would think if you are looking for a community that has both the beach life and a quiet and safe living area this would be it. Myrtle and Wilmington are close enough but far enough as well, Niche User.

OIB is a beautiful beach town in NC. It is a short drive from here to Myrtle Beach SC or Wilmington NC. OIB is quiet and sleepy so it's perfect for people who don't want to live in crowded place, but want to be able to go into the smal cities for activities and shopping.

The island has approximately 3200 homes and condos. Approximately 25,000 visitors enjoy Ocean Isle Beach weekly during the summer. Our secret seasons of spring, fall and winter can make you feel that the island is yours alone! Family and a back to nature getaway are what Ocean Isle is all about.

Though Ocean Isle Beach is much less busy than other popular beaches along the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina, the town still experiences the occasional busy Saturday when weeklong visitors settle into their vacation rentals and head to the grocery store for food.
