Alexander Britton ‘Brit’ Hume was born in Washington, D. C. USA, on 22 June 1943 – his zodiac sign is Cancer, and he holds American nationality. He’s a journalist and political commentator, who’s perhaps known best for the 23 years which he spent working at ABC News, a division of the broadcast network ABC.

Early life and education

Brit was raised in Washington, D. C. alongside his brother, by their mother Virginia Powell Hume (nee Minnigerode) and their father George Graham Hume; not a lot is known about Brit’s family as he respects their privacy, but it’s known that he’s of Scottish ancestry through his father.

Brit grew up being interesting in writing, mostly because his father read newspapers every day, and he eventually became interested in TV journalism, because his father also often watched news shows. Brit studied at St. Albans School at the same time as Al Gore, the American politician and environmentalist who was the 45th US vice president between 1993 and 2001, while Bill Clinton was the president.

Brit matriculated in 1961, and then enrolled at University of Virginia in Charlottesville, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1965.

Early careerh

Brit launched is career straight out of college, working for the newspaper “The Hartford Times”, and the following five years saw him work for United Press International, and the largest US daily newspaper “Baltimore Evening Sun”.

Between 1970 and 1972, Brit worked for the American newspaper columnist Jack Northman Anderson.

Brit’s first book “Death and the mines: Rebellion and murder in the United Mine Workers” was published in 1971, and features his research about the US Bureau of Mines, and how the country was treating their coal companies and miners. After Brit and Jack Anderson published a story revealing that the Nixon administration favored Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, both men and their families were surveilled by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

In 1973, Brit began writing for the magazine “MORE”, and the following year saw the publishing of his second book “Inside Story”.

Brit joined ABC News in 1973, and remained with them until 1996. He was initially hired as a consultant, but became a correspondent three years later, spending 11 years covering the US Senate and House of Representatives; for his contribution to the 1979 documentary movie “The Killing Ground”, Brit was nominated for an Academy Award.

He had also covered the 1984 and 1988 US presidential elections, and was in 1989 chosen as the ABC’s chief White House correspondent.

Career after ABC News

Brit left ABC News after he was invited to work for the Fox News Network as their managing director, where his wife was already working as chief of the Washington bureau.

In January 1998, Brit began hosting his own show “Special Report with Brit Hume”, in which he initially spoke solely about the Lewinsky scandal, while he later covered the 2000 presidential election, and did such a good job hosting that the show that it was the most watched cable news program for a couple of years.

He quit “Special Report with Brit Hume” in July 2008, but continued working for the Fox News Network, and on 6 September 2016 he became the temporary anchor of their news program “On the Record”, following the abrupt departure of the show’s previous anchor Greta Van Susteren. Brit anchored the show for only two months; he was replaced by Tucker Carlson.

He went on to cover the 2020 presidential election, and criticized Joe Biden for wearing a mask, because Joe had previously stated that Donald Trump not wearing a mask had a positive effect on people; Brit also called Joe senile.

He covered the election night for Fox News together with Martha MacCallum, Bret Baier, Dana Perino, Juan Williams and Chris Wallace, and the network won in Nielsen ratings that night.

Brit’s daughter Virginia is a politician, who worked for the Republican National Committee as their deputy press secretary in 1996.

He married his second wife Kim Schiller Hume in 1993; she retired from journalism and politics in 2006.
