Rogelio "Jun" Hernandez enters his 19th season as the head coach of the Rainbow Wahine tennis team, compiling a 182-194 record since taking over the program on Jan. 4, 2006. He is the program’s eighth head coach and over his tenure has guided the program through many firsts, from helping UH rank nationally in the ITA for the first time in school history to leading UH to three NCAA team tournament appearances and three conference titles (WAC-1, BW-2).

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS
- In 2023, Hawai‘i entered the BW Championship as the top seed. The Wahine swept both UC Irvine and Long Beach State, then held off Cal Poly, 4-2 to capture its second Big West Championship title.
- UH advanced to its third NCAA Team Championship tournament, traveling to 13th-ranked Oklahoma where the 'Bows fell, 4-0.
- Rainbow Wahine Petra Melounova became the first UH men’s or women’s tennis player to earn the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I All-American honors in 2019.
- Additionally, the 2019 season saw Melounova became the first UH player to advance to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16, compete in three NCAA championships, and the first BWC player to advance to the NCAA Round of 16 since 1996, solidifying her as the most decorated player in program history.
- Earned Big West Coach of the Year for two straight seasons from 2017 to 2018.
- Led the Rainbow Wahine to their first Big West Tournament Title in 2018, advancing the team to its second NCAA Tournament in school history.
- Melounova became the first UH player ever to win in the NCAA Tournament after upsetting 16th-ranked Rachel Pierson (Texas A&M) in the opening round of the 2017 tournament.
- Led the Rainbow Wahine to sweep the Big West Conference’s major awards for the first time in program history in the 2017 season.
- Guided UH to win its first ever Big West regular season title in 2017 after going 8-0 in conference, making it the Rainbow Wahine’s second overall conference title since 2012.
- In 2015, Rainbow Wahine Cindy Nguyen earned her second automatic bid as the highest ranked women's tennis player in the Big West to the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship (Waco, Texas).
- Also in 2015, Nguyen became the first women's tennis player to be voted a conference (Big West) Player of the Year as well being named the ITA Southwest Region "Player to Watch."
- On January 13, 2015, guided the Rainbow Wahine to upset No. 29 Kentucky, 4-3 for one of the biggest wins in program history which vaulted them into the ITA rankings in which they rose as high as No. 48 on Feb. 26.
- Oversaw Nguyen became the first Rainbow Wahine to ever earn a spot in the 2014 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship in Athens, Ga.
- Helped lead UH to its first NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament appearance.
- UH won its first WAC Tournament after advancing to its first ever WAC championship match.
- Under his tenure, UH ranked nationally in the ITA for the first time in school history.
- UH secured its first WAC Freshman of the Year (Jamie Pawid) and 2012 marked the first time two singles players were named to the all-WAC first team (Barbara Pinterova and Katarina Poljakova).
PRIOR TO UH
- Hernandez previously served as the assistant coach for the California men's tennis team for three and a half seasons under head coach Peter Wright. During his stay, the Golden Bears finished with a No. 4 national ranking during the 2002-03 season, their best season in 12 years.
- Prior to that, Hernandez served as Cal's assistant women's coach for three seasons under head coach Jan Brogan.
- Hernandez has spent the summers as a hitting coach for professional tennis players Martina Hingis, previously the world's No. 1 ranked player, Anna Kournikova, and Conchita Martinez on the Women's Tennis Association Tour.
- Began his collegiate coaching resume as a volunteer assistant at the University of San Diego in 1998.
- Served as an Assistant Tennis Pro at Rancho Bernardo Swim & Tennis Club.
- Worked at Golden Valley Country Club as the head coordinator for junior tennis, and the San Diego area after-school tennis enrichment program.

- In 1997, won 5 men’s open singles titles and 3 men’s open doubles events in Southern California.
- Additionally, captured one open singles title in Southern California and four open singles titles in Minnesota.
- In 1996, he was a finalist at the USTA National Men's 25 Hardcourt Singles tournament and ranked No. 3 in the USTA's Southern California Section rankings.
